A small parent-run daycare in Berlin — with space for up to 22 children aged 2 and over.
Here every child is seen, taken seriously and may grow at their own pace.
For over 20 years now we have accompanied children mindfully and with appreciation through their individual development. Many of our team have been part of the Kinderladen since its founding. Rather than an anonymous institution, we are a close-knit, family-like community: approachable, personal and with time for every single child and their family. We also place great value on our team’s ongoing training. Particular areas of our team members’ qualifications include, for example, Montessori education, trauma-informed pedagogy, systemic couples and family therapy, mediation, training on diversity and anti-discrimination, and much more.

A warm hello and welcome at the door. Time to arrive calmly and see who is all here today.
Maybe first some fruit or raw veggies at the breakfast table, or straight to the building corner? Or perhaps to the movement room to build a cave or take the baby cheetah for a walk? Maybe round up enough other children and head to the playground together — or rather look at a book in the quiet room with your best friends? In the movement room a family of big cats and two unicorns are now on the move, leaping between boulders so they don't fall into the lava. The shop is open, with cake on offer for 500 euros — quick, a few banknotes are crafted. The train track is being extended at full speed. In the craft area a few children are making decorations for the Christmas tree — in April. Other children staple together a self-drawn book for their parents. One child is bored; it decides just to look out of the window for now. Another child asks how to spell ‘Dear Mum’.
As soon as lunch is delivered, we fill it into bowls and put it on the table in the dining area. Some children help carry the bowls out and then quickly grab cutlery and their little bowl to eat right away. Others keep playing calmly and come to eat later. Every child decides for themselves what and how much they want to eat. Some help themselves several times over the course of the day, others are so absorbed in play that we occasionally remind them that food is on the table.
Children who are tired can sleep in the quiet room or gather new energy by looking at books and being read to.
When possible, we go with the children who want to to the park or nearby playgrounds. In the front garden we have a big sandpit where, when it is warm enough, water play can happen too.
A good close to a full day and the gentle transition home. All children should be picked up by 4 pm — but of course you are welcome to collect your child earlier too.

As a parent initiative we rely on your support. What exactly comes your way, and how much, we discuss openly — plannable and family-friendly; here too we take each family’s individual capacities and possibilities into account.
Entirely at your child’s pace and in close exchange with us.
When possible, the children who want to go out head to our front garden, to nearby playgrounds, or sometimes on outings, e.g. to the Gemeindepark, the Steglitzer Stadtpark or the Insulaner.
Freshly cooked [ vegetarian / organic ], by our caterer (currently the canteen of the Freie Waldorfschule Kreuzberg). We of course accommodate allergies and special needs.
